DB2 11 for z/os: another applcompat question
Thanks for all the valuable input

When I change the applcompat zparm from V10R1 to V11R1, I know what I CAN do - I am interested in what others have done

1) Mass rebind of packages forcing APPLCOMPAT V11R1 ?

2) Do nothing - allow BINDs to pick up the ZPARM value as processed; if a package doesn't need the functionality of V11R1, let it sit at V10R1 until V12 ???

3) Other choices?

Thanks again for guidance when I need it most

DB2 11 for z/os: another applcompat question
(in response to Chris Hoelscher)
The mass rebind approach worked well for us. Although we did not run into any issues- I’m of the type who would rather want to know about them sooner rather than later. That’s my reasoning for choosing the manual rebind approach. As each development region was converted, rebinds were performed, this way if there were any performance degradation, we’d know about it well before the conversion of production.

Which ever approach you choose, don’t forget to rebind the distributed SYSL* packages after the conversion.

Regards,
George Palko

AW: DB2 11 for z/os: another applcompat question
(in response to Chris Hoelscher)
Hi Chris

We always specify the highest APPLCOMPAT possible, when we bind a package. We never rely on the ZPARM. We only rebind packages, which weren’t bound since one year. In this case you have to specify APPLCOMPAT, if it is not blank in SYSPACKAGE, because rebind picks the value stored in the catalog. In V11 we were told we have to rebind all your packages to get to V11R1, because sometime along the road V10R1 is no longer supported and packages with V10R1 cannot be executed. But in V12 with continuous delivery they don’t tell that anymore. They don’t want people to not to migrate to the highest function level possible.

Kind regards

DB2 11 for z/os: another applcompat question
(in response to Chris Hoelscher)
At some point, all V11 packages will need to be rebound with APPLCOMPAT V11R1 if you are migrating to V12. That was on the checklist for our conversion to V12 and had to be done. In some cases, we had packages that hadn't been rebound since V9 but most were already at V10 when we went to V11. But before we went to V12, everything was rebind to ensure everything had APPLCOMPAT V11R1 in it. It was a mass rebind at that time. But we watched everything after that like a hawk and had no problems because we had already converted our problem children there anyway because of the performance gains we got in V11 over V10 for these packages.

Thanks Myron W. Miller

Hi Myron,

Db2 V12 supports APPLCOMPAT V10R1, so I don't see why you necessarily have to REBIND to V11R1?
