DB2 11 on z/OS : How long can DB2 tolerate not being recycled

Dear Experts,

How long can DB2 tolerate not being recycled. What is the recommended and practical time ( days/weeks/months ) , after which DB2 should be recycled.

Would not recycling DB2 after more than a certain time, increase the possibility of an outage or stop DB2 from doing any of its tasks efficiently.

I am asking about the recycle required excluding any version/patch upgrades.

I would greatly appreciate , if you can shed some insights on this or point me to any documentation.

Thanks a lot, in advance.

hello,

In our company db2's can run about 5 or 6 months without problem . but as you have to put maintenance or make IPL for other reasons they are stopped about 3 times each year (summer/winter  time , maintenance , z/os ipl) .

In the past memory usage is  the main reason for stopping db2 . If you are in datasharing you can stop members easily without impact on system availability .

Alain

Jha,

The only times we cycle Db2 at our shop is when an IPL is required due to system maintenance which is about every six months- sometimes longer. From my experience of working with Db2 (27 years), I’ve found that as long as it’s configured properly, it does not need to be regularly re-cycled to perform efficiently.

Regards,
George
