Automation Tool 4.3 How to generate SORTDEVT xxxxxxx in Runstats
Do you know (if there is) where's the option to generate this keyword in
Runstats?
Can't find it. I think I've seen all options in Utilities Profile -
Runstats with no luck.
Thanks,
Horacio Villa

I think the software is not properly upgraded.
The Automation Tool 4.3 User's Guide shows options I don't see.
Thanks

Horacio,

How important is it to specifically define SORTDEVT for your RUNSTATS?

Documentation (included below) from v11 says that RUNSTATs uses SYSALLDA as a default. Can you define a device type of SYSALLDA in the system hardware profiles? That would route the work datasets appropriately without you having to have a fix from the vendor.

[from the "DB2 11 for z/OS Utility Guide and Reference" (July 18, 2017 edition, SC19-4067), .pdf format, Chapter 33, page 763]
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SORTDEVT
Specifies the device type that the sort program uses to dynamically allocate the
sort work data sets that are required.
device-type
Specifies any disk device type that is acceptable for the DYNALLOC
parameter of the SORT or OPTIONS option of the external sort program.
Tape devices are not supported by the sort program.
If all of the following conditions are true, SORTDEVT defaults to SYSALLDA
and the temporary data sets are dynamically allocated:
v You omit SORTDEVT.
v A sort is required.
v You did not provide the DD statements that the sort program requires for
the temporary data sets
If you specify SORTDEVT and omit SORTNUM, no value is passed to the sort
program; the sort program uses its own default.

Hi Horacio,

SORTDEVT (and SORTNUM) was added for the RUNSTATS utility profile through APAR PI81061 (closed August 2017).

http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg1PI81061

Note that the IBM Db2 tools are using continuous delivery, so you will see lots of improvements and new function through APARs, so you might want check if there are interesting features available through maintenance.

The list of APARs for V4.3 is available here:

ftp://public.dhe.ibm.com/software/dmtools/ptflist/DB2autotool430.html

If it is takes a long time before you can apply maintenance including APAR PI81061, you can "hack" the ISPF skeleton used to generate the RUNSTATS statements. You can contact me off-list if you need instructions.
