Steven,

I thought DB2SORT was the name for the stub DFSORT license which is automatically supplied with DB2. About fifteen years ago, IBM decided it wanted closer integration between DB2 and SORT in order to achieve greater efficiencies. This sounds like that; so you should actually have DB2SORT (If this is that stub license), and it’s part of the DB2 implementation.

Subject: [DB2-L] - DB2 z/OS v11 REORG Shrlevel Change Deadline issues

Is anybody else having issues with DB2 v11 Reorgs and Deadlines at the moment?

We seem to be having a couple of different issues (that we have PMRs for);

* The Reorg can reach the Deadline and abend
* The Reorg can reach the deadline and just hang on an ECB wait outside of DB2. Terminate Util doesn't work and the job has to be cancelled
* The Reorg can reach the deadline, stop processing the current object, but then go on to start another object from the Listdef and then decide to end

The APARs I've found usually mention DB2SORT, but we don't have DB2SORT.

Regards,

Steve

DB2SORT is separately licensed and not DFSORT.
Out of the box you have DFSOR, but if you need more sort efficiency, dynamics etc. you will have to pay an extra charge.

DB2SORT (was DB2 z/OS v11 REORG Shrlevel Change Deadline issues)
(in response to Isaac Yassin)
Isaac,

Thanks very much. Interesting detail.

“DB2 Sort provides high-speed utility sort processing for data that is stored in DB2 for z/OS databases. DB2 Sort is a component of the IBM DB2 Utilities Solution Pack for z/OS. DB2 Sort is also available as a separately orderable product.”

Is anybody else having issues with DB2 v11 Reorgs and Deadlines at the moment?

We seem to be having a couple of different issues (that we have PMRs for);

Steve

RE: DB2SORT (was DB2 z/OS v11 REORG Shrlevel Change Deadline issues)
(in response to Philip Sevetson)

Hi Philip,

Yes, IBM Db2 Sort is a replacement for the general purpose sort program DFSORT.

Db2 Sort can be used for the sorting in REORG, REBUILD INDEX, LOAD, and other utilities that require sorting of data. Additionally, it can be used with several of IBM's Db2 tools that sort data, such as IBM Db2 Log Analysis Tool and IBM Db2 Recovery Expert.

Db2 Sort is not used for sorting of SQL result sets.

Best regards,

Jørn Thyssen
