ADR971E on Flash Copy

ADR971E on Flash Copy

We have a ticket open with IBM and if we recreate the problem with a dump we will likely get an answer that way.

But in the meantime has anyone had experience with this error using Flashcopy on DB2 VSAM datasets? DB2 files are 11, z/os 2.2 DFSDSS 2.2. Had this error on .3% of the datasets.

It was this flavor

"A logical COPY was requested for an extended format VSAM data set and DFSMSdss could not enqueue on the data set name. DFSMSdss requires IDCAMS to copy the data set. A logical COPY using IDCAMS cannot be performed on an extended format VSAM data set that is open for update. The TOLERATE keyword is not supported."

The mystery is why wouldn't an enque be granted especially since the tablespaces were stopped and then put in RO.

Perhaps this is interesting to one other person. The issue ended up being that some of the tablespaces that were on extended VSAM were defined with a Stripecount of 4. And some of the stripe extended on multiple volumes. At that point DFSMS can no longer use FASREPLICATION but IDCAMS is invoked. And IDCAMS requires an exclusive Enqueue unlike Fastreplication.
