Db2 for zOS V12 new tablespace type - PAGENUM RELATIVE

Hello.

Our company is currently on the way to DB2 V12. Our main reason for the upcoming migration is the use of the Db2 V12 new tablespace type - PAGENUM RELATIVE. The reason for using this type of tablespace is because of the rapid data growth of one application. This application stores CHARACTER data in very large tables. In the future, we want to enable tables with more than 128 TB size and a DSSIZE larger than 64 GB through this tablespace type. Does anyone have experience with such scenarios in Db2 V12 and which possibly existing restrictions must be considered there currently in contrast to tables with 5-BYTE addressing?

7 Byte RID so your mapping table(s) must be changed

Much more flexible with PI and TP ALTERs

Horrid REORG TS level with TP inline copies to migrate there



Apart from that they are tippy top!!!

Hello

During our ESP we tested with this tablespace type. The biggest problem we faced was that during conversion you can’t use inline copies stored on tape. I also believe you can’t use them, when you just reorg several partitions at least if you want to stack them, because every image copy dataset will be pre-allocated.

Also make sure your 3rd party DBA tools will support them.
