any plans to extend the DB2 for z/os 11 EOS dates?
With the possible client reductions in force during these uncertain times, are there any rumblings of IBM extending the DB2 for z/os 11 end-of-support dates?

Thank You,

Not that I have heard, but I have heard of customers deciding to delay going Db2 12
So, from one side of the equation, yes!

The question is will IBM offer some leniency on licenses or extended support as it seems likely Summer and Fall migration plans will be impacted in a fair amount of cases because of COVID.

(in response to Jorg Lueke)
My Agency would appreciate the delay, while we *are* moving to DB2V12. Prework is continuing, mainly changing all tablespaces to UTS before the upgrade and getting current EXPLAINs on all production packages (with the full suite of DB2V11 explain tables).

We are planning to be fully on DB2V12 by the end of the year (last I heard), so any extension of DB2V11 EOS would be welcome.

Hi Philip

Why do you convert all your tablespaces to UTS? That is not necessary for a successful migration. And if you have any multi-table-tablespaces then wait with the conversion.

Walter,

In version 12, it is our understanding that one can no longer create a segmented tablespace. We don’t want to go into V12 with non-recreate-able objects in our business schemas. (We are breaking out our tables which reside in multi-table tablespaces, into their own tablespaces for this.)

(in response to Philip Sevetson)
Phil,

FL504 disables the ability to create deprecated table spaces. However, you have to run that DDL through a package that is at APPLCOMPAT level M504 in order to experience that restriction. Even if you do run it through an M504 package you can still set the CURRENT APPLICATION COMPATIBILITY special register to a lower level and create a deprecated object. I fully support and promote a plan to convert the deprecated table spaces, but it is not a necessity. Especially if it is an impact to your schedule.

Dan

It looks like IBM has revised their support policy for  DB2 V11. Based on announcement letter generated today, 220-261, they have extended support for Db2 for z/OS V11 and QMF V11 to 3/31/2021. I guess we get a little more breathing room for DB2 V12 migrations.
